This was taken a week before Helena went to hospital. The Chinatown in London is pretty much the same after all these years. Same old restaurants, same streets. There is this sense of nostalgia in the atmosphere, sad but encouraging. Sad as goodness knows how many people from China have shed their blood and sweat to build this area. Encouraging as despite all odds, the gateway to Chinatown still stands proudly in London.
History seems to forget the facts that this quietly hard working race has been contributing so much to the development of countries in the world. The railways in USA, the trades in Liverpool, early development in South East Asia, to name a few. Sadly overseas Chinese seem to be often having a lot of hard times, their role and contribution have often been unrecognised and unappreciated.
Now the dragon in the far east has awakened. It seems like that the history of Chinese has managed to look up into the sun and has rekindled some hope. Well, lets hope this time, no one will screw it all up again.
There was this saying about Chinese:where the sun shines is where they live. However, as long as the sun shines, the blood in these people will never run dry in the pages on human history....... sad but true.
