There has been a roller-coster in the last few months in the department of accident & emergency. Wide variety of cases were encountered in the department. The cases were roughly divided into major and minor cases. There were also occasionally some resuscitation cases where patients were nearly dead and all attempts were tried to save their lives. All sorts of drama can happen here. All too often, we have to deal with drunken people with punched injuries, car accidents, homeless or drug abusers asking for shelters etc..... There are also some neglected and abused cases where patients were dealt sensitively and there some psychotic cases where you just have to call the psychiatrist as soon as possible.
All these cases let see the other side of the human being-the most vulnerable, inner and sometimes darkest side of their beings. All these has taken quite a lot of emotional toll on those who deal with them. It is no wonder the team here looked liek they have been to several war zones and back again. Weather beaten and weary, you just can't help being cynical and unforgiving to those who are just plainly not taking care of themselves, being stupid or obviously taking advantages of others.
Horrendous shift works with few weekends and huge work load equal burnout. I am now totally depersonalised that I wish i can escape to a no-man island and rest........ That would be nice. However, with the coming few other commitments, I will not have my sunkissed beach holiday till next year!!
I am as grumpy as grumpy can be now! (###@#@#@~'#'#!)
